It is native to Southeast Asia, including India, and is known for its heart-shaped, waxy green leaves. These leaves are used for medicinal and culinary purposes, particularly in the preparation of "Paan," a traditional South Asian mouth freshener. The plant is relatively easy to grow, preferring filtered sunlight or partial shade and a well-draining, slightly damp soil.
